Luther’s September Bible—a translation of the New Testament from Greek into German—was published in 1522 and disseminated broadly. This text put the most important texts of the Christian faith into the hands of the general public.

Join us on Saturday, October 29 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Livonia for a hymn festival with congregational singing, a festival choir, German organ works, and brief reflections on Martin Luther’s approach to education and his labors to translate the Bible. Compositions by Luther, Cruciger, Schütz, Bach, Mendelssohn, Manz, Briehl, and more.

This event is free and open to the public. Reception to follow.

Josh Messner is founding director of the Elm Ensemble. He studied music and theology at Valparaiso University and Islamic Studies at Luther Seminary in Saint Paul. In his youth, he was a member of the American Boychoir. He works at the University of Michigan as communications manager in the Center for Global Health Equity.
